Acupuncture

Acupuncture has evolved into one of the most utilized and powerful forms of integrative medicine today. Originating in China, the ancient practice of acupuncture was first described as an organized system of diagnosis and treatment in The Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine dating back to 100 BCE. Over thousands of years, the practice of acupuncture continued to be further developed and acupuncture point location became more precise along with herbs, diet, massage and moxibustion until it became a standard therapy in China.

Used for its many health benefits, acupuncture treatment has risen in popularity primarily for its ability to relieve pain and in part to scientific studies proving its efficacy. Treatment sessions consist of very fine needles being placed into the skin. Some people feel tingling or pressure at these points, but most feel very little or no discomfort at all.

Did you know…

More than 10 million Americans are receiving acupuncture treatments every year in the United States. In 1971, just prior to President Nixon’s visit to China, acupuncture was used on a US Press Corps member after he received an emergency appendectomy. He wrote about his experience in the New York Times creating interest in the success of the procedure and prompting many US physicians to travel to China to learn more.

The tradition of acupuncture theory believes that energy flows within the human body along 12 main channels called meridians. This vital energy or life force, called Qi can be channeled to create balance, provide relief from pain and illness and support good health. In Western culture, many believe instead that it stimulates nerves, muscles and connective tissues to promote healing. You do not have to be sick or in pain to undergo acupuncture. In fact, many people use acupuncture as a means of maintaining good health. However, the therapy can provide relief for various conditions and symptoms.

Examples include:

      • Headaches

      • Chronic pain

      • Nervous disorders

      • Respiratory disorders

      • Digestive disorders

      • And more!

    What is Aroma Acupoint Therapy?

Aroma Acupoint Therapy (AAT) is a gentle and profoundly effective treatment modality created by Peter Holmes, LAc, MH, a master herbalist and acupuncturist. AAT utilizes the energetic treatment potential of pure essential oils and needleless acupuncture points in combination. Treatment involves placing single oils on specific acupuncture points in order to trigger energetic changes in the individual that will bring the patient back to a state of balance. The result is a more significant clinical effect than using either oils or acupuncture points alone. Dr. Kowata has been professionally trained by Peter Holmes to offer this therapeutic treatment to her patients.

Many patients report relief from physical and mental health conditions, increased energy and a sense of calm immediately following an acupuncture or AAT treatment. For more information about acupuncture and whether it’s right for you, call our office to schedule a consultation.
