Intravenous Nutrient Therapy

Intravenous Nutrient Therapy was first developed in the 1960s by Dr. John Myers, a physician at Johns Hopkins Hospital who theorized that our body’s digestion, absorption and detoxification systems only allowed a small fraction of vitamins and minerals that we were receiving either in food or pills to be actually absorbed into the body. Dr. Myers created the “Myers’ Cocktail” to intravenously saturate the body’s cells with a direct infusion of vitamins and minerals. The Myers’ cocktail commonly contains magnesium, calcium, vitamin C and B-complex vitamins. This intravenous (IV) infusion has benefited hundreds of thousands of patients and more than 50 years later, the Myers’ cocktail continues to be successfully administered by nutrient-oriented clinicians.

IV nutrient cocktails are a complex combination of vitamins and minerals administered as a liquid solution through an IV line directly into the bloodstream. This type of micronutrient therapy is often used to address symptoms caused by poor absorption of nutrients and/or an increased nutritional need to support essential systemic pathways in the body. This delivery allows the dosage of vitamins and minerals to become immediately integrated into the body’s circulatory system. This method of administration bypasses the digestive system, allowing more vitamins and minerals to reach the body’s cells and tissues rapidly and efficiently. Since the original Myers’ cocktail, many different combinations of vitamin nutrient infusions have been developed to address specified health concerns. IV Nutrient Therapy can support conditions such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, cancer, autoimmune disease, migraines, infections (bacterial, viral and fungal), heavy metal toxicity and more.

Common Types of IV Nutrient Infusions Provide:

  • Nutrient support: replenishes essential nutrients caused by deficiencies or leading to sub-optimum function.
  • Immune support: designed to improve the time it takes for healing to occur, reduce inflammation and duration of illnesses and guard against infection.
  • Metabolism support: boosts overall body function and sense of well-being, improves energy levels and decreases oxidative stress.
  • Detoxification support: improves the body’s ability to detoxify from environmental toxins.
  • Stress support: improved response to stress can improve mood and brain function.

The majority of patients can receive an IV vitamin infusion. The components are generally well-tolerated, and Dr. Kowata will be able to customize the most targeted IV nutrient infusion according to your symptoms and goals for treatment.
